Aside from the annual softball game--and of course the dredded "victory lunch"--when do members of the Kiwanis Club of Indianapolis and Rotary Club of Indianapolis have lunch together? When it's for a great organization like the Indianapolis Children's Choir! Charming and witty, the "Hoosier Hoofer", Don Steffy shared history and the fact that this organization is about more than just singing!

Tom Schneider from the Rotary Club of Indianapolis joined us today--and it had nothing to do with softball! He graciously shared information about Indy Do Day!

Thursday September 14, 2017
Does our brain matter actually affect how we think politically? Kudos to our Committee and Chair!

Aktion Club rocks! The need is just so pressing and it’s just as pressing now as it was when I started working with children in the legal system 25 years ago.”

Rush has seen hundreds of children in her courtroom over the years, each one of them special to her. She still remembers every single one of their faces and names to this day.

The number of pictures of the children who stood before Rush in the courtroom were so many, the collection eventually grew to cover her entire bench. She took all of these pictures and decoupaged them on a large canvas. The portrait hangs in the Statehouse today to remind people of the “importance of the law in protecting children in the system.”

“Pieces of those cases stay with you. I can close my eyes and see some of the cases.”

One case in particular stuck out to Rush during those years, which involved a girl under 10 years old who was molested by one of her family members. When the little girl was recounting her experiences to Rush, she paused and said, “I hope this isn’t hard to hear.”

“It hit me; that one hit me,” Rush remembered. “That she had the empathy to worry about me hearing the horrors that she had lived.”

This instance, among many others, reaffirmed the importance of her role in these childrens’ lives.

“When you are involved in this, you are resolved to put those children in a safe place and not let it happen again. Not let the system take advantage of them and to make sure that they are gonna get to know the world again as a safe one. That is why you do it, because you know how bad it can be for them out there. You can’t turn a blind eye to it,” Rush said.

June 20, 2014

Kim Graham Lee, trueU

Kim Graham Lee spoke to the club about a new nonprofit founded in February. trueU is a consortium of companies and individuals who believe in growing leaders, investing in relationships, and serving others. The theme of her presentation was, relationships matter. They are the building blocks of rewarding lives and successful companies. Healthy relationships are learnable skills and chooseable attitudes. Building strong relationships requires intentionality and investment. A healthy company recognizes that its success is ultimately based on the support of people (internal and external) who impact the business. Just as we are all leaders and teachers, we are all students, and we learn from each other, sharing what we’ve discovered and growing together.

June 13, 2014

Indianapolis Indians

Radio Broadcaster, Will Flemming, Indianapolis Indians outfielder Jaff Decker, and pitcher A.J.
