April 4: Field Trip to Shapiro's

Please arrive no later than 11:30 a.m. to walk the line and purchase your meal. Let your eyes make the choice, or plan your meal ahead of time by looking at the menu options.
Gathering at the back room, reserved for Kiwanis, have time for social, then remarks from owner Brian Shapiro at 12:15 p.m.

Shapiro's is the oldest single-family owned Jewish deli in America!

We'll hear from Brian Shapiro, the grandson of Louis & Rebecca, who opened this establishment on South Meridian Street in 1905 (more than a decade prior to Kiwanis!). He has been at the helm since 1999.

 Since 1905, four generations of Shapiros have been making quality meals for our family and friends in the United States, buying vegetables from our Italian neighbors; sugar and beans from Needham Hurst, now NKHurst Beans, when they first opened in 1938; and corned beef from Sam & Emil in Chicago, otherwise known as Vienna Beef.
